Using the latest technology and live theatre, the Gunpowder experience will transport you to the heart of the story. As the protagonist, you’ll get immersed in a 360-degree environment where you’ll experience deception first-hand.
As you step back into 1605 London, the experience will ignite your five senses. This multi-layered experience will make you feel like history is happening around you in the present.
Every November 5th on Guy Fawkes Day, people remember the Gunpowder plot of 1605. Basically, Gun Fawkes and fellow Catholic conspirators attempted to blow up Parliament.
Everybody knows Guy Fawkes was the man behind the mask. He was caught in the act and imprisoned. Later, they tortured him and his fellow conspirators at the Tower of London before they suffered a tragic death in Westminster.
This new attraction offers an experience similar to the Gunpowder Plot. Even though not every participant is familiar with the story, they will surely enjoy the experience. It takes traditional re-enactments a step further thanks to the use of digital technology with live theatre. As a new way of experiencing history, visitors will infiltrate the Gunpowder plotters and earn their trust.
The show consists of three elements – live theatrical performance, special effects, and virtual reality. The story starts and ends at the Tower. You will journey through the streets of 1605 London as you immerse yourself in the 360 environment.
As you go undercover, you’ll get to unmask the mysterious figures behind the historic infamous plot. While doing so, you’ll feel your senses ignite as you attempt to escape the Tower or make the daring journey along the Thames towards the parliament.
At one point of the experience, you’ll be riding down the Thames on a boat feeling the waves beneath you and experiencing the smells of historic London. In fact, you’ll experience the smells as you watch the Tower of London as it looked back in 1605. This is what makes the experience immersive.
It’s often claimed that Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators met and hatched their plan at the Duck and Drake tavern. They swore an oath on the bible to assassinate James I of England and blow up the Parliament. During the Gunpowder Immersive Experience, you’ll enjoy an interval cocktail or drink in a specially recreated Duck and Drake.
However, this is only accessible to plotters. When you go inside the recreated tavern, keep your wits with you. This is because you don’t know who you may bump into as you explore the tavern.
The Location…
The Gunpowder Plot Experience will take place in a purpose-designed immersive theatre in Tower Faults. Located at the UNESCO World Heritage Tower of London, it was last opened to the public over two decades ago.
The vaults sit beneath the Tower Hill site. This specially converted vault space consists of 20,000 square feet of space and has three separate levels. It’s here where Guy Fawkes’s audacious plan to blow up the Houses of Parliament was foiled. When they discovered Guy Fawkes in the cellars, he had 36 barrels of gunpowder, and he was about to light the fuse.
They arrested him together with his fellow conspirators and took them to the infamous Tower of London. Here, they tortured and imprisoned them and on January 1606, they executed Guy Fawkes in Westminster’s Old Palace Yard. They did so in full view of the building that Guy was planning to destroy.
